Program Associated Data (PAD)

Digital Radio’s “Program Associated Data” (PAD) is a relatively new multimedia distribution channel now available for all public radio stations broadcasting on HD Radio, or at least radio broadcast data services (RBDS).

NPR's activity under the CPB PAD grant has focused on:
  • Complementing the PAD/PSD activities recently completed by PRI

  • Furthering network-distributed PAD for the public radio system's most listened-to programs

  • Instituting Vendor Relationship Management (VRM) to influence receiver manufacturers to deploy improved PAD designs to better serve the public radio audience

  • To document and demonstrate station-level baseline PAD implementation, and the economics of those activities for all public radio stations
    • NPR Labs PAD Software
