NPR Labs provides engineering consulting services, including coverage and interference studies, FCC regulatory analysis, measurements of receivers and broadcast equipment, and field measurements of station facilities. We specialize in:
- Field-validated coverage studies and interference prediction models for FM radio and digital television

NPR Labs uses mapping software custom-developed by the Institute for Telecommunications Sciences, Boulder, Colorado, running on the ESRI ArcMap® GIS platform. This provides state-of-the-art signal propagation tools along with a highly flexible geographic information system.

NPR Labs was established on October 1, 2005 as America's only not-for-profit broadcast technology research and development center. Located in the heart of Washington, DC, at NPR headquarters, the Lab works daily on technical research projects supporting the interests of public radio stations across the country.
